A peninsula with its own plumbing habits

The shape of the place.

Wangi Wangi is 3.66 square kilometres of ground nearly ringed by Lake Macquarie, and that shape drives most of the plumbing here. Water runs down the slopes toward the foreshore, so drainage falls need grading properly or lines pond after rain.

The salt.

The tidal lake is saltwater, and homes near the water cop brackish air year round. That shortens the life of taps, fittings and copper runs compared to suburbs further inland.

The housing.

At the last census the suburb counted about 2,920 residents across 1,199 dwellings, mostly owner-occupied houses. That's a lot of older, cared-for homes, and older homes come with older plumbing.
